Week 1 - Knock-Knock Jokes

A note from alycewilson: For the past six months or so, KFP has become very interested in telling jokes. His favorite type of joke is the knock-knock joke, but he tells them his own way. Instead of a punchline based on a pun, he delivers non-sequiturs with enough prat falls and funny business that it's hard not to laugh, even if, strictly speaking, they make no sense. This is his LJ Idol entry for Week 1, where the topic is Jayus, meaning a joke so poorly told and so unfunny that one cannot help but laugh. I've embedded a video of him, recorded this morning, telling two knock-knock jokes, as well as a transcript that includes some visual descriptions.

KFP (WEARING A BLUE BASEBALL SHIRT WITH A ROBOT ON IT THAT SAYS "ROBOT REVOLUTION: THE FUTURE IS NOW"): Knock-knock!

Alyce: Who's there?

KFP: Orange! (BOUNCES UP AND DOWN)

Alyce: Orange who?

KFP (WHILE JUMPING UP AND DOWN): I can't find my car! I can't see it -- hit the mailbox and went in the water. I mean, the pond!

Alyce: Oh, no!

(KFP FLOPS DOWN ONTO THE OUCH, FACE FIRST)

Alyce: That was pretty funny. You want to tell me another one?

KFP: Yes. All about the mailbox and now dead (ph).* (FALLS DOWN ON COUCH)

Alyce: Oh, you have to start the joke again.

KFP: Knock-knock.

Alyce: Who's there?

KFP: Banana!

Alyce: Banana who?

KFP (FLOPPING AROUND ONTO THE COUCH) I can't find my truck! I crashed it in my mailbox and went in the pond! (CLIMBS UP ON THE COUCH)

Alyce: Oh, no!

(KFP THRASHES AROUND ON HIS BACK, MOVING HIS LEGS AND ARMS)

KFP: OK, I want to play now.

(KFP GOES OVER TO THE LAPTOP ON THE COFFEE TABLE TO RESUME PLAYING A GAME ON PBSKIDS.ORG)

Alyce: All right. Thank you.
